Scoring

Dressage

  • Each movement is awarded a possible 10 marks, these need to be added together – noting some movements carry double points.
  • The percentage is obtained by dividing the total good marks of the judge by the maximum possible good marks, multiplying by 100 – rounding the result to 2 decimal places
  • In order to convert percentage into PENALTY POINTS, subtract the percentage from 100 – round the resulting figure to one decimal place.

Show-Jumping

The PENALTY POINTS for show-jumping are those listed by the show-jumping judge against the competitor’s number.

Faults are awarded as follows:

Knockdown 4 penalties
First disobedience (refusal) 4 penalties
2nd disobedience 8 penalties
3rd disobedience Elimination
First fall of competitor 8 penalties
2nd fall of competitor Elimination
Fall of horse Elimination

These faults are added together to give total penalties.

Cross-Country

The PENALTY POINTS for cross-country phase are divided into jumping penalties and time penalties.

Jumping Penalties

First refusal/run-out 20 penalties
2nd refusal/run-out 40 penalties
3rd refusal/run-out Elimination
4th cumulative refusal/run-out Elimination
Fall of rider Elimination
Fall of horse Elimination
Omission of obstacle Elimination
Jumping obstacle in wrong order Elimination

Any competitor jumping an unflagged fence or a jump not numbered within their class will be eliminated. It is the rider’s responsibility to be aware of the correct course for their class.

Time Penalties
Optimum time is based on metres-per-minute.
Class 1 tba
Class 2 tba
Class 3 tba

For every second in excess of the Optimum Time = 0.4 penalties.
Under the Optimum Time incurs no penalties until the Minimum Time is achieved.
For every commenced second under the Minimum Time = 1.0 penalty.

Chilham have set a good hunting pace for the Optimum Time. Speeds achieved under the Minimum Time are considered too fast for the terrain and are therefore penalised.
