Two days of exciting competition.
NEW FOR 2010
Extra classas - BE80(T) and Novice
We are very proud to be holding our Fourth British Eventing Horse Trials at Chilham Castle and hope all riders, spectators and volunteers enjoy a fantastic day in the beautiful landscape, originally laid out by Capability Brown in the 18th century.
Eventing is the ultimate challenge for horse and rider, testing the horse’s obedience, ability and stamina and the rider’s control, skill and knowledge. The trial is split into three phases: dressage, show-jumping and cross-country.
Dressage
Will test the harmony, balance and ability of the horse and rider. All competitors will attempt to perform the prescribed movements in the same order in the dressage arena.
Show Jumping
Is designed to test the jumping ability of the horse and the skill and control of the rider over a moderate course of typical show jumps.
Cross Country
Is a major test of the skill and bravery of horse and rider. They have to deal at speed with the height and spread of the fences, as well as the natural contrasts in the environment.
First Time as a spectator at a Horse Trials?
Helpful information
Spectators are encouraged to walk the cross country course.
You are reminded that half-a-tonne of horse travelling at speed cannot swerve easily, so please keep children under control, dogs on leads and stay out of the path of the horses. Please listen for the whistles warning of the approach of a competitor. Please obey all instructions given by officials.
What to wear?
We can’t control the English weather! August can be anything from a blazing hot sunny day to heavy rain, so please make sure you are wearing appropriate clothing and footwear.
High heels are not practical, particularly if you want to walk the cross country course.
Please be aware that Chilham Park is undulating parkland and if there has been rain it can be muddy and slippery, particularly on the cross country course.
Dogs
Well behaved dogs are welcome at Chilham Park but must be kept on lead AT ALL TIMES.
Chilham are excited to be running a BE80(T) class during the Chilham Castle BE Affiliated Horse Trials on Sunday 15th August 2010. We have developed our course and many new jumps have been built to make it an excellent introduction for riders new eventing.
Competitors in BE80(T) benefit from the experience of BE Accredited Coaches who are on-hand to give help and guidance.

BE90 Section A Even with 4 show jumping faults, Katie Grove's excellent dressage score on Charlie XIX (35) won her this section. A double clear on Tador (35.5) gave Cheryl Freed second place with Tom Jackson taking third and 4th on Rosie V (36.1) and Life of Pi (38.5). |
|
BE90 Section B A very competitive section with the first three placings all finishing on their dressage scores. Peter Rhodes won on Cry Freedom II (30.5), closely followed by Janet Phillips on Silvern Conetta (31.5) and third place taken by Ian Carey on Sharkhams Real McCoy (32).
|
|
BE90 Section C Elles Extreme (33.5) ridden by Jane Pottle won Section C with an excllent score and double clear. Emily Bradshaw on Patrick (37) picked up 4 time penalties but took second place with third place taken by Araminta Rickcord on Flash Point IV (37.5). |
|
BE100 Section D A really competitive section with the first three placings all finishing on excellent dressage scores. First place was Ken Spencer on Clear Voice Z (28), second Gemma Tattersall on Dinky Inky (32) and third Emily Bradshaw's on May Surprise (34.5). Emily had a good day picking up two good placings at Chilham. |
|
BE100 Section E An unfortunate 4.42 time penalties dropped Landine (34.3) ridden by Rose Carnegie to third place. But excellent double clears gave Will Johnson on Dougal III (32.5) first place and Ken Spencer riding Litchfield Perdita (34) second place. |
|
BE100 Section F Section F couldn't have been closer with Penny Sangster on Endymion Entrechat (24) and Aileen Tizzard on Kavanagh II (24) both finishing on a score of 24. In the end Penny Sanger took first place. Third place was Sam Penn on Brockley Star (25). |
|
BE100 Open Section G The Open was a small section and won by Emma Hopkins on Castello TH (27.2). Karen Hellier on Top Notch (32) was second and Anna Foster on Venturi (33.5) was third with both riders achieving double clears. |
|
BE100 Plus Section H An unfortunate 4 show jumping penalties dropped Dark Pretender (36.5) ridden by Frances Davies to third place. Sam Penn won on Tickeridge (29.5) with Lisa Clarke-Spence second on Falcons Cliche (36). |
|
BE Novice Section J We were excited to see how our new Novice course rode. With very few competitors making the time, it was definitely a challenge. After an great Saturday, Ken Spencer continued his winning streak by wining both Novice sections. Ken won riding Erill Lad (36.2) in this section. Natalie Daines on Bready Boy K (39.5) was second with Michael Wynne on Zenith IV (40) chasing hard but placing third. |
|
BE Novice Section K Ken's second Novice win was on Gifted Musician (38.2). Guy Phipps was second on Summer High (38.8). Emily Blew on Archie X (41) must be disappointed with an unfortunate 4 show jumping penalties as she was one of the few competitors to get a double clear. |
|
BE 80 Training Section L We received many complimentary comments about the variety of fences on our BE80 course. With double clears and excellent dressage scores, second and third were Natalie Hudson on Liberation II (26) and Harriet Sutton on Miss Bling (28.4). They were unlucky as Laura Geary was the clear winner, finishing on her amazing dressage score of 15.5. |
|
BE 80 Training Section M Susie Pilbeam on Eclipse V won Section M on a final score of 30 points. A steady cross country round by Platinum Conquest (31) ridden by Jennifer Martinez incurred 5.01 penalties dropping her to second place with Margaux Herinckx placing third on Lanson II (32). |
